Dr. Luis Thompson received his medical degree from the Universidad de Chile, Santiago 1979. His training included internal medicine and clinical microbiology at Universidad de Chile; tropical medicine and medical mycology at Instituto de Medicina Tropical de Sao Paulo, Brazil; medical mycology at Robert Koch Institut; and Internal medicine at Klinikum Charlottenburg at the Free University, Berlin, Germany. He is currently head of the Infectious Diseases Unit at Clinica Alemana de Santiago, and Professor of Internal Medicine at the Universidad del D esarrollo, Santiago, Chile. Dr. Thompson has published more tan 50 original articles and reviews, as well as numerous book chapters in the field of medical mycology, including the clinical efficacy and safety of systemic antifungal drugs and the future prospects for medical mycology in developing countries.
